Why can't I delete my account

I would like to delete my account, but have been told that this is not possible, so I would like to request this basic feature. Thinking about how much negative feedback sites like Facebook have gotten for not letting users delete accounts I can't believe that you do not offer this service being a developer community.

Currently we do not have a "delete" function but if you send an email to support@dzone.com we can have our system administrators disable your account. This will remove your account from the active list and archive your information. You can email questions and requests to Support@dzone.com Thanx,

Hey Brandon, Not that I have any plans to leave DZone (great resource!), but what information is archived? Will our blog links still be available, or do they have to be resubmitted? If our account is closed, is our personal information removed from the databases and so we would have to re-sign up again if we choose to come back?
