HTML5 is a Big Deal for Enterprise Developers

I was recently made aware of HTML5's canvas element and I believe that this could render Silverlight, JavaFX and Flex obsolete. The "canvas" tag allows you to embed script based graphics, usually JavaScript, in your page. Expect the leading Ajax frameworks, like JQuery and GWT, to provide programmer friendly APIs for canvas based visualizations.

July GroovyMag is Out!

The July edition of GroovyMag is out! There's a lot of great articles in it including the one I authored entitled 'Inline Editing with jQuery'. The goal of the article is to teach the user how to create an inline editable datatable which supports editing with textfields, textareas, select lists, and datepickers. On top of all that is sprinkled a healthy dose of ajaxy goodness.

Since the last time I posted browser benchmarks, Google Chrome jumped to version 2, Safari released version 4, Internet Explorer 8 was released, and just yesterday Firefox version 3.5 hit the intertubes. Furthermore, the Dromaeo JavaScript benchmarks have been refined and expanded since then, so it’s high time we update the numbers.

AJAX Features in ASP.NET MVC

For a few moments when I first approached ASP.NET MVC I really thought it was the negation of AJAX. With a programming model heavily based on REST principles, I thought all that one could do is invoke a URL. And when you get, or post to, a URL, you inevitably involve the browser and get a full-page refresh. As I’ve explored it more, and as the facts have largely shown, my first impression was dead wrong. AJAX is definitely possible in ASP.NET MVC.
