The Naga API is now compatible with 2.x releases (Poblano, Alegrias and Habanero) - just drop in a Naga jar into an app compiled against 2.x, and update to the more "current" APIs at your leisure. There are benchmarks comparing 3.0.0.BETA1 against 2.2.0.GA (released just last weekend), 2.1.1.GA, and against the latest EHCache release as well. The public API is stable and all major features are in.

Book Reivew: “Practical API Design: Confessions of a Java Framework Architect”

The author is the founder of Netbeans. He has dozens of great examples of good and bad API design from his experience. He describes where their API got out of control and how they dealt with it, methods for monitoring your API as a community or team with an API review, and how to avoid API mishaps. Jaroslav is so intimate with the evolution of the JDK that he is able to site specific examples in the JDK where changes to the API broke software around the world. Jaroslav is very knowledgeable on the topic and his writing shows it.
