On a technical level this means Moblin is built for the Atom x86 chip found in many netbooks, while on a practical level it means Moblin is an Internet- and multimedia-focused operating system. Moblin is less about knocking-up spreadsheets on the move and more about twittering, updating your Facebook account, and watching movies on the go.

I'm tempted to go buy one of these netbooks just to give this a try. I'd also like to see how that hackintosh stuff works on a netbook. I wonder which netbook model is the best value these days?

I own an Asus EEE 1000HE/N280 for 3 months - it came with Win XP Home preinstalled. I grabbed an USB stick with GParted and I modified the hdd structure by shrinking the win partition to half of the drive and the rest I used to install EEEBuntu - nevertheless to say, it went perfectly smooth. Some weeks lather I upgraded it by running the auto-updater to the latest EEBuntu 9.04 based obviously on Ubuntu 9.04 without any problem. Since then, I mostly use the eee gizmo with my Ubuntu Tux :-). For my needs, this is the best value. Great battery life, if you format it right and rough in fact it gets close to the advertised parameters, for me it always lasts more than 8 hours.I use the gizmo exclusively for doing tux cracking and hacking with gcc/nasm no java/enterprise style work.
