Why the downvotes?

Must be the Linux/Mac guys. :) Happens all the time. Article on Flash - anything, like Flash cures Cancer - it gets slammed by Flash haters aka HTML folks. One on Android, gets pulled down by iPhone folks. Etc. Kind of like how Obama got slammed by Republicans for winning the Nobel prize.

Indeed, even though it didn't make sense I down-voted the article. Hey, I'm a Mac user and we have to keep up the good tradition, right? :P

Windows 7 has only got the market share because it comes pre-installed on most new computers! If Linux was heavily marketed and came pre installed on all new computers it would also gain a reputable market share. Mac and Linux users alike have a cult following and don't require loads of publicity to convince people to buy or use their software because we know its good.

I try to stay out of OS politics - because frankly I don't care who uses what OS - but this comment is absurd. Do you realize that your first statement implies that 4% of all computer users purchased a new PC since the Windows 7 release date? (Yes, I'm aware people were given upgrade coupons for some months before that, but they had to claim them and install the upgrade, making it a conscious decision.)
Linux and Mac are _different_ from Windows. "Better" is too subjective a term for such a broad comparison, and declaring any OS as "better" than the others across any and all categories is blind fanaticism.
If Linux fanatics would stop claiming that more people would switch to Linux if only they were as enlightened as they were, maybe less people would be put off using it.

"I try to stay out of OS politics...." but that didn't stop you from kicking linux in the nuts with your last statement. If you try to stay out, then stay out.
jfernandez replied ago:
My last statement was not anti-Linux, it was anti-Linux fanatic. Positive and proactive supporters can further a cause, but fanatics can destroy it. If you don't want Linux to remain a (desktop) niche, don't support elitism.

Very Unfair! Post is good!

I like the new Windows 7 and I agree that it is so much better than Vista. The average user only uses computers for the web, for Facebook, mySpace, Twitter etc. Would your average user care what software was pre-installed?
