Software defined networking (SDN) is an emerging paradigm shift in network traffic technology. Still in the early stages of solutions commercialization, SDN essentially removes the network managing software from the hardware of the network itself (switches and routers), and puts it on a separate control plane that is purely software, similar to server virtualization.
