RoboVM 0.0.14 has been released! We heard about this tool not too long ago - cross-platform mobile development platform, taking Java to iOS - and it's pretty interesting, so if you're looking for a way to put your Android skills to use on other platforms, you might want to check it out. This update makes the following changes:

  • Upgraded Android runtime classes
  • Added support for Xcode 6 beta 2 / iOS 8 beta
  • Changes to ICU data file
  • Removed old CocoaTouch bindings
  • Added support for new CocoaTouch frameworks

And if you haven't heard of RoboVM, here's the general idea (from the release announcement):

The goal of the RoboVM open-source project is to bring Java and other JVM languages to iOS. RoboVM's ahead-of-time compiler translates Java bytecode into native ARM or x86 machine code that runs directly on the target CPU without being interpreted. The runtime is based on Android's runtime classes and includes a Java to Objective-C bridge which makes it easy to use native Cocoa Touch APIs from Java.

You can download it from the Eclipse Marketplace or from RoboVM, and be sure to check out the full announcement for all the details.

Java (programming language) Open source Data file Cross platform Android Runtime Cocoa Touch Java bytecode Objective C IOS 8 Android (robot)
