Introduction

The corporate world can not stop talking about the digital transformation and 2021 is expected to see the rapid scaling of digital initiatives across all sectors post the COVID-19 pandemic. Software is becoming a key business differentiator in the industry and its quick, reliable, and timely delivery is becoming the core of the digital transformation.

Software is important to all organizations, but mere software does not serve the purpose in today’s rapidly changing digital economy. Industry requires solutions that meet their business requirements with modern development and delivery processes as these developments help in innovation and in getting the competitive edge over other players in the industry.

The speed of digital transformation is increasingly driven by the new norms of digital connectivity due to last year's pandemic. Some of the organizations which might not have moved far in their transformation journey need to have a look at DevOps as an approach to build upon speed and agility.

DevOps is a methodology that focuses on transforming your human resources, your workflows, and your technology. The approach helps in breaking down silos, automating manual processes, and helps your organization get aligned with the common objectives. The whole process begins with a transition in culture and leadership. The methodology helps in enabling quick, frequent, and smooth service delivery. Following are some of the ways through which DevOps as a service helps in digital transformation for an organization:

1. DevOps Unites People, Processes, and Technology

DevOps empowers organizations to add additional value to their clients' requirements at a faster pace. It helps in connecting individuals, work processes, and technology in an enhanced manner. When these three components are in sync towards the same business objective, innovation and advancement take place quickly and more efficiently.

DevOps additionally helps in reducing the internal waste of people and tools by shifting the focus on what should be done around digital advancement. This leads to teams automatically working on significant features.

The quick and frequent release of new tech and gaining the competitive edge over the competitors in the market and further fulfilling the client’s requirements on a timely basis would not be possible without the implementation of the DevOps methodology.

2. DevOps Makes Automation a Priority

DevOps has a focal point around which organizations can shape their future digital transformation strategies. The DevOps principles of increasing flow, shortening feedback loops, and encouraging continuous learning and experimentation are the basics upon which digital transformation can become a reality for a lot of organizations. The IT industry has been so caught up with providing tech solutions and automating the processes for the rest of the industry that it failed to realize the benefits of its own work. DevOps helps in getting the principles of automation to life for the industry.

The catch in the situation is that automation on its own is not the magic trick for DevOps or digital transformation. Automation has to be supported by people, workflows, and the culture of the organization.

3. DevOps Breaks Down Silos

Development teams build and uphold the architecture that makes an organization's digital transformation a reality.  Digital transformation comes along with an increased pace of innovation and requires upgrading and development of new tools and technology for which teams need to adopt the DevOps approval. This will help them take their digital transformation ahead by enabling team members to test and troubleshoot faster, collaborate & coordinate across the organization, experiment more frequently, and result in driving towards innovation and advancement.

Probably the greatest way DevOps helps in the digital transformation is by breaking down the silos in the organization. Effective digital transformation requires the implementation of the approach across the organization. By breaking down the silos, the development teams can gather better insights into what all is working and is not working across the organization, which leads to quicker improvements and spreads a culture that embraces the changes that come along with the digital transformation of the organization.

4. DevOps Enables Continuous and Reliable Change

Digital transformations are driven by numerous factors like quick learning, adoptions, and iterations made by organizations—how the organizations embrace cloud technologies, update their architectures, and try to reach a broader client base. If the organization lacks the processes, culture, and control that enables you to embrace the continuous changes, then DevOps approach is what the organization requires to achieve their goals. DevOps culture and practices are important for implementing such transformations for the organizations.

5. DevOps Exhibits Practices That Make Organizations Improve

DevOps helps the organizations to comprehend different models and systems which might increase their overall performance, leading to increasing their competitive edge, thus leading to successful digital transformation. The principles of DevOps help the organization move ahead from conventional practices to a digital-ready organization where the responsibilities are distributed, and work is done collaboratively to achieve the business objectives.

Conclusion

While DevOps isn’t an easy approach to adopt, attaining digital transformation for your organizations without it is next to impossible. The major changes that DevOps methodology brings to the organization are the collaboration between the development and operations teams and creating an environment wherein both the teams could function together. Apart from the digital transformation, it also helps your team to deliver the best quality of solutions to its clients on a timely basis.
