January, February, March, quarantine... 2021. Everyone is impressed by how time flies and how COVID-19 changed our lives and the IT industry in general. Of course, the Internet of Things is not an exception.
IoT technologies have always let people expand the possibilities of their organization by adding agility and more control over different processes. And with every year the usage of IoT in different industries is potentially growing. The continued growth of the IoT industry is going to be a transformative force across all organizations. By integrating all of our modern-day devices with internet connectivity, the IoT market is on pace to grow to over $2.4 trillion annually by 2027.
But how COVID-19 transformed the Internet of Things? What are the most important industries that are using IoT right now? What should we expect in 2021?
IoT in Healthcare
Most of the IoT focus will be on the healthcare industry and it’s not a surprise. As we know, IoT implementation impacts on reducing healthcare costs and improving treatment outcomes of the infected patients. Therefore, this present study based research shows that the main goal of IoT in 2021 is to help coronavirus infected patients to identify symptoms and provide better treatment rapidly. IoT is focusing on patients, physicians, surgeons, and hospital management systems.
IoT for Dedicated Teams and WFH
From “cube offices” we moved to “dynamic offices” and now we are at the stage “home offices”. Everyone in the world (if we are talking about software development, marketing, sales, HR, etc) is working from home. It’s a great chance for IoT startups, such as amazing management tools, AI-powered video conferencing software, virtual meetings technologies, to show themselves to the world. In 2021, many startups will become parts of big corporations because businesses are looking at how to improve work from home by using IoT technologies. Big corporations are ready to pay millions of dollars if this startup is covering all the company’s needs.
IoT for Retail and Small Businesses
Based on business reports, 96% of retailers are ready to implement IoT in their stores. IoT in retail focuses on building the best cashless payment systems, making supermarkets smart, creating systems for tracking the movement of customers around stores, etc. Many software development companies are full of such requests.
“Starting in March, there is a huge number of clients that are looking for companies that can help to develop the IoT solution for their stores or small businesses. We are developing smart IoT and embedded solutions to enable remote monitoring, collecting and analyzing data in real-time, that can help businesses identify improvement opportunities.”, - comments Ivan Muts, the CEO of Euristiq, the company that specializes in IoT solutions.
Reading all the predictions of IoT experts, it's hard to disagree that the Internet of Things is one of the leading industries that will transform our society. However, the healthcare system, working from home, and retail will be the first on this list.
