He joins existing JavaLobby Zone Leaders James Sugrue and Geertjan Wielenga, helping expand our coverage of enterprise Java topics. Here he introduces himself in his own words. Please give a warm welcome to Wouter! -- Nitin Bharti, DZone VP of Operations
When I was 12 years old I got excited about astronomy as a hobby. After high school it was a logical choice for me to go to Leiden University and study astronomy. I eventually learned that astronomy as a science too much differed from astronomy as a hobby so I did some computational sciences side courses. In the mean time I taught myself to program in Java.
During my graduation I started working for Cobalt Networks which got acquired by Sun Microsystems a few months later. About a year later I graduated in astronomy and due to a reduce in force going on at Sun at that time I had to go to another company. I became a Perl scripter for Internet Control Services but was able to go back to Sun 8 months later. There I took up my old job as a Linux support engineer, this time also doing some support for StarOffice and OpenOffice.
About two years later I started to pursue a career as Java developer. Unfortunately, Sun Microsystems was only interested in developers with many years of experience so I started looking outside of Sun. In februari 2005 I switched to AMIS Services in Nieuwegein where I still work today as a Java (Web) Developer.
The following are some of the topics I will be focusing on here on JavaLobby:
- EclipseLink in combination with GlassFish and OSGi
- Database differences that you should know about when developing with JPA, e.g. maximum varchar(2) sizes, number formats, date formats etc.
- JBI and SOA
- Oracle ADF and Apache Trinidad
If you have written about any of these topics, please contact me at wouter at dzone.com. I'll be most interested in reading your article(s) and sharing them with DZone readers!
Sincerely,
Wouter van Reeven,
JavaLobby Zone Leader
