Thanks to Emma McGrattan, SVP of Engineering at Actian for making me aware of the availability of Actian Vector Analytic Database Community Edition (VCE) on the Amazon Web Services (AWS) Marketplace with 1-Click fulfillment. This enables customers and developers to easily deploy Actian VCE on AWS in minutes using the new Amazon Machine Image (AMI) appliance within the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2).
This offering is illustrative of the steps Actian is taking to deliver a seamless “any cloud” experience, scaling from one node to hundreds. Actian Vector’s progressive architectural design supports popular distributed file systems including Amazon S3 and HDFS. Actian Vector also features native support for the Apache Spark open-source cluster-computing framework to power broad-based data ingestion, as well as next generation prediction and machine learning (ML) solutions.
The Best of Both Worlds: Free and Quick
The Actian Vector Community Edition (VCE) is available to developers free of charge to enable rapid prototyping of data-driven applications. With broad community support, developers can be active within minutes. For companies requiring larger data stores and professional technical support, Actian offers an enterprise edition of Actian Vector.
With the availability of Actian VCE on AWS Marketplace, users can:
Access the fastest vectorized, in-memory analytics database.
Choose the optimal deployment model to handle data on-premise, in the cloud, or both.
Accelerate development and deployment of analytics solutions.
“Hybrid data today is accessed from a variety of sources across organizations in order to complement how it is consumed by different departments,” says McGrattan. “It’s important to us to make our tools available to developers on any cloud, including AWS, to meet the demands of hybrid data, no matter where it resides, to bring the most value to the business.”
Actian Vector is an industry leading, vectorized, relational database engine designed to deliver high-performance analytics. The database was designed from the ground up to exploit performance features in today’s modern IT infrastructure, such as columnar and in-memory based analytics.
Actian VCE AMI will be available via the AWS Marketplace by the end of November 2017. To learn more, visit here. A cloud-based enterprise version with flexible hourly SaaS pricing is planned for introduction in the first quarter of 2018.
