Amazon Reportedly Found a Better Deal w/ SDN Than Cisco Could Offer
Tech media keeps predicting that Cisco is going to be hit the hardest by the arrival of software-defined networking. According to a Business Insider article , that has already happened in a $1B deal with Amazon, which was dropped to only $11M.
The report says that Amazon dropped most of the hardware deal with Cisco in lieu of buying, "cheaper hardware and SDN for the rest of its needs, the source said."
That sounds a little suspicious since the industry is no where close to being able to go out and buy SDN. But the cheaper hardware makes sense, and I imagine that Amazon already has something like an SDN working in its datacenters.
