On Monday, Hortonworks' HBase team released HBase 96. According to the team, over 2,000 issues were corrected in this update, and a lot of big improvements have been made. Notable changes include:

  • Reduce Mean-Time-To-Recovery
  • Support for MS Windows
  • Data type flexibility
  • Modularization

For more details, check out Hortonworks' full announcement, and take a look at Apache's HBase blog as well. There are updates, and then there are updates, and this one appears to be in the latter category. A lot of work went into HBase 96, and by the breadth of changes that were made, it shows.
