Join For FreeApacheCon, the official conference, trainings, expo, hackathon, barcamp and meetups of The Apache Software Foundation (ASF), is highlighting imminent close of the call for papers, open until April 29th, 2011. Applications have to be submitted online at http://apachecon.com/. Successful submitters will get a free ticket to the conference.
In keeping with the true nature of Open Source, the event's organizers are encouraging those from outside the ASF to submit proposals:
"With the Apache footprint ever-growing, it’s important for the ApacheCon program to reflect the breadth of our community – not only to attract a broader audience, but presenters as well. Five of the top 10 Open Source software downloads are Apache: the Apache HTTP Server powers more than 190M Websites worldwide; from Hadoop to CouchDB, over a dozen Apache projects form the foundation of today’s Cloud computing. The Apache community at-large is recognized as one of the most robust and respected in Open Source," said Sally Khudairi, Vice President of The Apache Software Foundation.
"We want to hear how Apache software is being used, and submitting a presentation to the ApacheCon Call for Participation gives users and developers the opportunity to showcase their success stories. Those selected will join ApacheCon’s roster of experts in technology, community, and business -- and receive a free ticket to the event!"
This year's ApacheCon takes place 6-11 November 2011 at the Westin Bayshore in Vancouver, Canada.
The conference’s theme is "Open Source Enterprise Solutions, Cloud Computing, and Community Leadership", featuring dozens of highly-relevant technical, business, and community-focused sessions aimed at beginner, intermediate, and expert audiences that demonstrate specific professional problems and real-world solutions that focus on "Apache and ...":
... Enterprise Solutions (from ActiveMQ to Axis2 to ServiceMix, OFBiz to Chemistry, the gang's all here!)
... Cloud Computing (Hadoop, Cassandra, HBase, CouchDB, and friends)
... Emerging Technologies + Innovation (Incubating projects such as Libcloud, Stonehenge, and Wookie)
... Community Leadership (mentoring and meritocracy, GSoC and related initiatives)
... Data Handling, Search + Analytics (Lucene, Solr, Mahout, OODT, Hive and friends)
... Pervasive Computing (Felix/OSGi, Tomcat, MyFaces Trinidad, and friends)
... Servers, Infrastructure + Tools (HTTP Server, SpamAssassin, Geronimo, Sling, Wicket and friends)
About The Apache Software Foundation (ASF)
Established in 1999, the all-volunteer Foundation oversees nearly one hundred fifty leading Open Source projects, including Apache HTTP Server — the world's most popular Web server software. Through the ASF's meritocratic process known as "The Apache Way," more than 300 individual Members and 2,500 Committers successfully collaborate to develop freely available enterprise-grade software, benefiting millions of users worldwide: thousands of software solutions are distributed under the Apache License; and the community actively participates in ASF mailing lists, mentoring initiatives, and ApacheCon, the Foundation's official user conference, trainings, and expo. The ASF is a US 501(3)(c) not-for-profit charity, funded by individual donations and corporate sponsors including AMD, Basis Technology, Cloudera, Facebook, Google, IBM, HP, Matt Mullenweg, Microsoft, SpringSource, and Yahoo!.
