Make sure you didn't miss anything with this list of the Best of the Week in the DevOps Zone (November 28 - December 05). Here they are, in order of popularity:

1. Gradle Goodness: Using and Working with Gradle Version

  • To get the current Gradle version we can use the gradleVersion property of the Gradle object.

2. Things Every Programmer Should Know

  • Learning process of developers never ends. It is in our DNA to continuously feel the need to learn and self develop. As much as we learn, we have even more to learn. The technology world is moving so fast that to keep the pace and be up to date with cutting edge knowledge, we need to embrace learning as part of our daily activities.

3. Using Phing to SSH into a Vagrant Box

  • I run this project on a Vagrant VM and have discovered that I keep forgetting to ssh into the vagrant box before running the migrations script. The obvious solution is to automate this and I decided to use Phing to do so.

4. Properly Unit Testing Scrapy Spiders

  • Scrapy, being based on Twisted, introduces an incredible host of obstacles to easily and efficiently writing self-contained unit tests. To get around these hurdles, I created a BaseScrapyTestCase class.

5. TDD For Teams

  • I strongly suspect that TDD for teams is different than TDD for individuals. Here's why.

The DevOps Zone is brought to you in partnership with Sonatype Nexus.  See how the Nexus platform infuses precise open source component intelligence into the DevOps pipeline early, everywhere, and at scale. Read how in this ebook
