The Best of the Week (Sep. 19): IoT Zone

· IoT Zone

Access the survey results 'State of Industrial Internet Application Development' to learn about latest challenges, trends and opportunities with Industrial IoT, brought to you in partnership with GE Digital.

Make sure you didn't miss anything with this list of the Best of the Week in the IoT Zone (September 19 to 25). Here they are, in order of popularity:

1. The Internet of Things Costs Too Much

So, you heard about IoT. All you have left to do is check all the entries on your IoT shopping list and get your home fully automated. Before you worry about the technological singularity, though, you may want to consider something more immediately threatening: your rapidly emptying bank account.

2. IoT Developer Mindshare

What are the domains in the Internet of Things landscape? And which ones are developers and IT professionals most interested in? See each IoT domain's interest ranking and the percentage of developers who have actually worked on applications in those domains.

3. Internet of Doom: The Security Vulnerabilities of Connected Devices

Security in the Internet of Things is a fairly common concern these days - you know, Heartbleed, toasters, that kind of thing - but you may not even have considered the greatest threat to your connected devices: classic 1990s first person shooters.

4. Akka Notes: Actor Messaging - 1

From the introductory first part of the Akka Notes, we saw a bird's eye view of Actors in the Akka Toolkit. In this second part of the Akka Notes, we'll look at the messaging part of Actors. As for the example, we would use the same Student-Teacher example that we discussed earlier.

5. Book Review: The Silent Intelligence - The Internet of Things

Recently, I stumbled upon the book “The Silent Intelligence.” The book is an introduction to the Internet of Things. It is one of these books that after reading 20 pages, you are just hooked and you want to continue to read it until it is completely finished.
