MongoDB Atlas is a database as a service that makes it easy to deploy, manage, and scale MongoDB. So you can focus on innovation, not operations. Brought to you in partnership with MongoDB.

Make sure you didn't miss anything with this list of the Best of the Week in the Cloud Zone (Sept 12 to Sept 18). Here they are, in order of popularity:

1. Automation Through Workflow State

The benefits of automation are well understood: more agile service provisioning, faster time to insight when there are issues, and a reduction in human error. The premise behind SDN architectural advantages is steeped in the hope that SDN will help enable and ultimately promote automation.

2. OpenStack: A MySQL DBA Perspective – Sept. 17 webinar

The webinar will be divided into two parts. The first part will cover how MySQL can be used by the OpenStack infrastructure including the expected load, high-availability solutions and geo-DR.

3. Beyond Virtualization: The Rationale for PaaS in an IaaS World

PaaS grew out of multi-tenant run applications on systems run by providers. Admins in enterprise IT are understandably hesitant to deploy critical applications on a slice of someone else's pie, but the development of scalable, containerized, multi-stack PaaS software has changed the landscape.

4. How to Network Docker Containers with Weave

Zettio, created by the founders of RabbitMQ, has released Weave--a new networking system for Docker containers. Docker can already connect containers on a single host, but now networked containers can interact even across an unsecured network.

5. 10 Things I Learned About Rapidly Scaling Websites

More than anything, what I took away from this experience is that short term large scale is dirt cheap. I’d make sure that heaps more instances could be added early and when I next see, say, four or more instances being used and load escalating quickly, I’d up the instance size very early as well.

MongoDB Atlas is the best way to run MongoDB on AWS — highly secure by default, highly available, and fully elastic. Get started free. Brought to you in partnership with MongoDB.
