Purdy is a major leader in the Java community and has participated in Java standards development for many years.  His former company, Tangosol, invented the Coherence Data Grid product, which is now part of the Oracle product line.

His removal (see: "I'm no quitter.") as Senior VP of Development at Oracle marks the end of an era, and hopefully his next job will continue to have a positive impact on the Java community.
