The final release of Cassandra's major 2.0 update came today, and Jonathan Ellis of DataStax has the best primer you'll find for understanding all of the new features:

The headlining features in 2.0 are lightweight transactions, CQL enhancements, and triggers. But 2.0 also features a lot of internal optimizations and improvements!

On the same day as the release, Cassandra also surpassed Teradata and became 10th ranked  in DB-Engines.com's overall database rankings.
