This completes the JCP's work on Java 7, but there's a few more steps to finishing the product, according to Mark Reinhold, the Chief Architect of Oracle's Java Platform Group:
At this point all of the work required to define the abstract Java SE 7 Platform in the JCP is done but the actual product, JDK 7, is not quite finished.
Here at Oracle we’re busy wrapping up final testing of the release candidate, build 147. If all goes well then that will be declared the GA build on 28 July per the schedule posted in January. Oracle’s commercial binaries, based almost entirely on OpenJDK code, will be published that day; implementations from other vendors will follow.
OS X Lion Released, X Code 4.1 Free On App Store
Apple's highly anticipated OS X Lion was released today, available as a $29.99 upgrade for those with the latest version of the Snow Leopard. It will be available at Apple Stores in August for $69.99. Some of its 250 new features include multi-touch gesturing, full-screen app display, and built- in access to the Mac App Store.

Apple also updated Xcode, a set of developer tools for creating Mac software, to version 4.1. Developers will be happy to see that Xcode is now free, marked down from $4.99 USD. The new version features SDKs for Lion and iOS 4.3, in addition to other upgrades- but can only be used by those running Lion.
SATA Announces 3.1 Specification And Specifics
The Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO) has announced its SATA 3.1 specification is available to download.
The latest version includes design requirements for the SATA Universal Storage Module for portable storage applications, as well other enhancements intended to improve functionality and convenience, including:
- mSATA – SATA for mobile computing devices, now with enhanced auto detection to provide increased interoperability by eliminating the need for a dedicated mSATA connector
- Zero-Power Optical Disk Drive (ODD) – eliminates the power consumption of an idle SATA ODD, resulting in increased energy savings
- Required Link Power Management – drives energy efficient power management across all SATA devices, reducing overall system power demand
- Queued Trim Command – allows SATA SSDs to execute Trim without impacting normal operation, improving SSD performance
