Over the last three months, nominations and voting for the Jax Innovation Awards took place, the awards ceremony which highlights innovation and excellence in the Java programming community. Last night, the winners of the JAX Innovation Awards were announced:

  • Most Innovative Java Technology - JRebel
  • Most Innovative Java Company – Red Hat
  • Top Java Ambassador – Martin Odersky
  • Special Jury Award – Brian Goetz

Brian Goetz, the architect behind Java at Oracle, won the Jury Award for "demonstrating that he will not rest on the laurels of Java's past success, but elevate Java to the next level going forward."

Silverlight has the Same Vulnerability as WebGL

It seems as though Microsoft might have spoken too soon against WebGL. Last week, Microsoft announced that it would not support WebGL,a competitor to Microsoft's DirectX, due to a vulnerability which could be used for denial of service attacks or malicious code. Today, Chrome developer Greg Tavares revealed that Microsoft's own Silverlight 5 has the same vulnerability, which could be a problem for users of Internet Explorer 9 and 10. Microsoft claims that it has fixed the vulnerability for the next beta release.

OS X 10.6.8 Removes MacDefender Malware

A new update (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4561) for Mac OS X 10.6.8 "identifies and removes known variants of the notorious MacDefender Malware". Among several patches and fixes for bugs, the new update improves IPv6 support and adds enhancements to the Mac App Store to get your computer ready for Mac OS X Lion in July. The download is available now, and weighs in at 275.3MB.

Microsoft making Node.JS Windows Platform

Microsoft announced today that it "has joined Joyent and Ryan Dahl in their effort to make Windows a supported platform in Node." The project aims to have Node.js running on Windows Azure, Windows 2008 R2, Windows 2008 and Windows 2003.  According to the official announcement, Microsoft's "first goal is to add a high-performance IOCP API to Node to give developers the same high-performance/scalability on Windows that Node is known for."
