Yesterday, Apple won two preliminary patents against HTC, which could be a huge blow to both Google and HTC products and could mean a ban on HTC and potentially other Android smartphones. Today, Google's Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt announced their support for HTC in their fight against Apple.

"We have seen an explosion of Android devices entering the market and, because of our successes, competitors are responding with lawsuits as they cannot respond through innovations," he said. "I'm not too worried about this."

According to CNET, HTC "spent $300 million to buy S3 Graphics and its collection of patents" in hopes of defending itself against the lawsuit.

Qt 4.8 Beta adds Threaded OpenGL Support

Qt Labs released version 4.8 of their mobile framework Qt today. The new version includes several quality and performance improvements, and new features including:

3. Multithreaded HTTP

6. New API’s: Localization API and IP multicast API.

As previously mentioned, the Qt 4.8 Beta includes a beta maturity version of Qt Quick 1.1, with the following improvements.

1. Right-To-Left support
2. Improved image caching
3. Text input improvements – Support for split-screen virtual keyboard
4. nPinch Area to provide a declarative API for handling touch input.

Git comes to Google Code

The Google Code project now has native support for the distributed revision control system Git, in addition to their support for Mercurial and Subversion. Version of 1.6.6 and up of Git are supported, with repositories capped out at 4 GB and push sizes of 500 MB.

VirtualBox 4.1.0 adds VM Cloning

The new version of Oracle's Virtualbox 4.1, released today, includes several major new features. This release adds support for cloning virtual machines, and enhanced GUI for managing virtual disks, and a raised memory limit for 64-bit hosts to 1TB.
