The official dates of the JavaOne Conference have been announced by Oracle.  Speculation has still lingered around the future of the popular Java conference since the former sponsor, Sun, was acquired by Oracle.  JavaOne 2011 will be held from October 2nd through the 6th, 2011.  Oracle's OpenWorld conference will be held on the same dates, but at a different location.

Second Beta for LibreOffice 3.4

Sources at The Document Foundation have announced that the second beta of LibreOffice 3.4 is available for download.  This comes on the heels of an official Oracle announcement declaring the end of support for LibreOffice's commercial counterpart, OpenOffice.  The B2 release is scheduled for May 31.

Esper 4.2 Release

Esper 4.2 features a Domain Specific Language (DSL) for enhanced event processing.  New to this version of Esper is the Event Processing Language (EPL), a language designed to handle high-frequency, time-based event data. Support for lambda expressions (closures) is provided in the new release. Specific information about Esper 4.2 can be found on the Esper project site.

Until midnight tonight (Pacific time), you can nominate yourself for the EC Special Election.  Voting starts tomorrow.  Potential seats include one on the SE/EE EC and one on the ME EC.  They are the seats that were vacated by the uproarious departure of Doug Lea and the Apache Foundation.  You can check out the nomination process on Oracle's site.
