The new release of Microsoft's cloud computing platform, Microsoft Azure SDK 1.4, has several new added capabilities.  Support for multiple administrators through the enhanced Windows Azure Connect portal streamlines usage by keeping a log of changes made by each individual administrator.  Windows Azure Connect can now be installed on non-English versions of Windows. Legacy Oracle Users Might Pay More for Support in 2011

Current oracle customers might be facing a tough choice: upgrade or pay more for support. Oracle's Premier Support plan extends for five years after the initial purchase date.  In response to the economic downturn in 2009, Oracle waived continuing support fees for several of its products (PeopleSoft FMS/ESA 8.8, ELS 8.8 and HRMS 8.8, among others).  With the exception of Database 10gR2 and PeopleSoft Enterprise 9, no plans have been made to extend the waivers for the coming year.

Latest Visual Studio plug-in Beta for Python Slithers into PyCon 2011

Python Tools for Visual Studio, or PTVS, was presented at PyCon 2011 by Microsoft.  High performance computer clusters enable developers to scale their code.  A Message Passing Interface (MPI) supported by this beta enables message exchange in parallel computing systems. Go to Microsoft's PTVS project page to download the beta under an Apache 2.0 license.  Another beta of PTVS is scheduled for release this summer, and the final version should be available in autumn. The second beta will incorporate PTVS with a cloud-computing model.  You can download the new beta here.

Arrival of openSUSE 11.4 Announced

The latest incarnation of openSUSE, the 100% open-source, general purpose operating system for Linux, is available for download.  openSUSE 11.4 is based on the 2.6.37 Linux kernel.  Featured desktop interfaces include KDE SC 4.6 and the recently-released GNOME 2.32. Also new to openSUSE 11.4 is Tumbleweed, an ever-updating repository of stable openSUSE versions that are easily-accessible to users.  Tumbleweed replaces "Factory," a similar feature that was comprised openSUSE configurations that were less rigorously tested.
