Google Web Toolkit (GWT) 2.3, a Java-based open source development framework designed for use with Ajax applications, is built with IE9 in mind and it has just been released.  New support is included for HTML5 features, specifically those involving storage.  Web applications, for example, will now be able to store information locally. Also released with GWT 2.3 is the Google Plugin for Eclipse, or  GPE.

A Fork for Firefox

The new Firefox fork, developed by the Tor project, has been announced.  Torbutton, a Firefox extension that allows users to brows the internet anonymously, will be fully integrated into the new fork.  This eliminates the need for an excessive number of additional software installations.  You can follow the progress of the Tor project's new Firefox fork via the mailing list, or on the team blog.

RubyGems 1.8 Release On the Horizon

The RubyGems community blog has announced that the new version of RubyGems, version 1.8, will be released in the very near future.  Several new features will be included with this package management framework for Ruby.  Release notes indicate that the new version is focused on encapsulating functionality.  More details and a discussion of the new release can be found on the Polishing Ruby blog.

Red Hat Teaming Up With Appcelerator

Red Hat's OpenShift PaaS will soon be integrated with Appcelerator's Titanium Studio.  The goal of the integration is to allow developers to easily build, manage and deploy apps onto the cloud.  Essentially, apps will be created in Titanium and then pushed to OpenShift for release onto the cloud.
