John Resig has announced that he will no longer be acting as a JavaScript evangelist for Mozilla. He plans on scaling back his involvement with the jQuery project, and focusing on new challenges.  His next project will be with a non-profit, online education organization, Khan Academy. While there, he plans to rewrite the academy's framework for open source.

Lily 1.0 Released

Scaling data just got a bit simpler!  Lily 1.0 allows developers to easily scale Big Data systems. This content/data repository is designed to "bring Big Data/NOSQL technology into the hands of the enterprise application architect."  Basic features of Lilly 1.0 include core storage, index and search services, and data usage tracking. Building on Hadoop, HBase, and SOLR, Lilly is designed for installation on Cloudera Enterprise. 

Apache Qpid AMQP Reaches Version 0.10

Apache's Advanced Messaging Queuing Protocol (AMQP) has officially reached version 0.10.  This open-source implementation of the AMQP standard has brokers implemented in Java and C++ as well as client APIs for a variety of systems.  Management APIs are included for Python and C++.  Feature enhancements for Qpid 0.10 include, among others, a C++ broker that supports message queueing with priority ordering and Maven artifacts for the Java Qpid client.  More details about the release are available in the release notes.

Stackato: Framed as a'Cloud Foundry' For Perl and Python

ActiveState has released a developer preview of Stackato, a deployment, management, and scaling product for Python and Perl applications. Stackato's design was inspired by Cloud Foundry, and follows similar principals.  Features of the Stackato platform include:
  • Migration of existing applications to the cloud.
  • Secure multi-tendency and configure auto scaling to enhance application resource allocation.
  • Allow for easy database selection: MySQL, PostgreSQL, Redis, etc.
