Join For FreeTechnology giant Dell has just acquired EMC as of Oct. 12, 2015. Both EMC and Dell are leaders in the cloud, mobile, security, and software spaces, thus making this move a powerful one for the tech world. According to an article in The Wall Street Journal, this marks the largest technology merger in history.
“The combination of Dell and EMC creates an enterprise solutions powerhouse bringing our customers industry leading innovation across their entire technology environment. Our new company will be exceptionally well-positioned for growth in the most strategic areas of next generation IT including digital transformation, software-defined data center, converged infrastructure, hybrid cloud, mobile and security,” – Michael S. Dell
Dell’s acquisition of EMC is monumental in the metamorphosis of Dell from a mainly PC company, to general technology powerhouse. EMC specializes in data storage, cloud, security, and virtualization among other services. Thus, Dell now has almost everything in-house, an added benefit in creating proprietary software and offering its own services to customers, both in enterprise and household environments.
According to a press release on the Dell website, VMware will continue to be a publicly traded company under Dell’s ownership. Naturally, with this new movement HP weighed in with a hearty dose of skepticism. The EMC-Dell merger promises an interesting future with a lot of potential. Hopefully this also means an awesome “Dell Dude” throwback marketing campaign soon.
