Thanks for talking to us! What have you been working on lately?
My main efforts have been cultivating a community around Neckbeard Republic: bite-sized python screencasts. I have been a huge python enthusiast for a long time now, and I decided to start screencasting little things I've learned along the way. There are both free and paid portions of the site!
What do you think were some of the most exciting developments in the open source world in the last year or so?
There's been a ton of design-based open source work, which is awesome. Previously there has been a ton of excellent software work, and I'm super-excited about the fact that open source no longer means ugly.
Are there any particular developer tools or resources you couldn't live without?
I am pretty much fully dependent on Sublime Text 2, and git. I use these tools both daily and my life would be much more difficult with them.
Do you have a favorite open source project (or projects) that you've contributed to recently?
Do you follow any blogs or Twitter feeds that you would recommend to developers?
I currently curate a Python Newsletter called Pycoder's Weekly. Topical newsletters is how I prefer to get my news. I have also cultivated a group of people I follow on Twitter who have discerning taste which provides some sort of quality filter.
Did you have a coding first love -- a particular program, gadget, game, or language that set you on the path to life as a developer?
I remember me and my best friend would use Hyperterminal (windows chat tool) to send MP3s to one another over the computer, and to my mom's frustration the home telephone connection would take forever. But that's when I knew I wanted to work with computers.
Anything else you'd like to mention?
Yeah, if you want to see what I get up to in the near future hit me up at http://www.twitter.com/myusuf3
