Need more proof that developers are really interested in cheap, easy-to-manage, pure-SSD cloud storage? Look no further than DigitalOcean's growth numbers this month. They've outpaced all of Amazon Web Services, which is impressive given the number of services that AWS entails. AWS has a built-in advantage with the multitude of services it has, so it's kind of shocking that a single service is beating all of Amazon's web services combined.
DigitalOcean is now the 15th ranked hosting company (measured in web-facing computers), and it got to that ranking after having only 280 web-facing computers at the beginning of 2013. Here are some more quick stats from Netcraft:
- DigitalOcean is currently hosting 490K websites
- 120K new websites were added this month.
- 818 sites migrated from AWS to DigitalOcean
- 88 sites migrated from DigitalOcean to AWS
