Dzone Daily Dose - 2009/10/24

The NetBeans 6.8 beta is finally available after being delayed more than a month past the original release date.  But it's better late than never as NetBeans 6.8 has a ton of shiny new features.  Look for the final release of 6.8 at the end of the year, unless they delay it again.

Symbian has taken another step toward open-sourcing their entire platform.  The Symbian Foundation recently announced the release of its EKA2 microkernel for development along with the supporting toolkit under the Eclipse Public License.  The EKA2 is largely responsible for Symbian's fast performance and long battery-life.

PayPal announced it will become the first global online payment service to allow third-parties to access their APIs and develop on their platform.  At the Web 2.0 Summit, the president of PayPal talked about his vision for the future, a future where people can blow their money even faster.  For all the details, you can check out this article

And saving the best for last, we have great news for Mac users doing mobile Java development.  Java ME SDK for Mac OS X has finally arrived!  All the details are here.
