SAP and Microsoft are supposedly ganging up on Oracle with a new marketing agreement.  Microsoft agreed to recommend SAP's BusinessObjects Planning and Consolidation application to its customers as its preferred solution.  SAP seems to be at odds with Oracle saying it has "concerns about customer choice in the database market."  The alliance of SAP and Microsoft may foreshadow more collaborative efforts to compete with Oracle's Fusion Middleware platform.

Nexan's SATABeast storage system just doubled it's capacity from 42TB to 84TB.  The company says it used only four units of rack space to double the storage.  The new enterprise-class RAID system features reduced power consumption and support for RAID 0, 1, 1+0, 4, 5 and 6.   SATABeast also features a unique anti-accumulative rotational vibration and horizontal midplane cooling technology.  Luckily, you don't need to know what that means to use the system.

The SDK for Microsoft's Surface tabletop PC is now available to all developers.  The free SDK allows developers to build and test apps for Surface without actually owning the $12,500 to $15,000 device.  Microsoft hopes this move will accelerate the deployment of great Surface apps like this one.  To try and boost sales, the company is working on a thinner, less expensive version that is wall-mountable.

The RightScale cloud manager plans to support Windows Azure.  The move will let customers deploy RightScale-managed apps in the Azure cloud.  RightScale's Service Management API will support Azure's infrastructure services.  RightScale already supports Amazon and Rackspace infrastructure services.
