A new version of Apache Lucene, an open source search engine, was just released.  Version 3 of the Apache Lucene project is being called a "clean up release" by the project management committee chair, Grant Ingersoll.  The release removes all depreciated features and now requires Java 5 and above.  The Lucene API now makes use of Java 5's generics, varargs, enums, and autoboxing.

The European Commission recently dropped the antitrust investigation of Qualcomm's 3G and 4G patents.  After four years of investigation, Ericsson and five other mobile companies dropped their complaints, thus ending the motivation for the anticompetitive probe.  Qualcomm is still appealing its $208 million fine to the Korea Fair Trade Commission.

XDEV 2 is now available under a Business Edition license for multiple users and a free, open source license for single user applications.  The new version of XDEV, a Java IDE, is built to help 4GL, Basic, or Delphi users switch to Java.  The IDE makes Access and Visual Basic-style Java database applications.  The Application Framework provides event handling, an SQL generator, JDBC extensions for popular databases, and more features that Java developers don't have to program themselves.

Yet another "death" of a technology is being declared in the top link of the past 24 hours, "Is Internet Explorer dying...? [Statistics]".  Take a look and see if you agree with the blog's analysis.
