Yesterday, EC chair Neelie Kroes was optimistic that Oracle and the EU could come to an agreement.  Today, Oracle attacked the EU, saying that they have only focused on a few arguments against the Sun merger, ignoring the majority of customers, such as GE, Fujitsu, and Siemens.  Microsoft and SAP are preparing to make attacks of their own, aimed at Oracle.

With Chrome catching up to Firefox by adding extensions, many of the add-ons are also catching up.  Some of the most popular are the Chrome Ad Blockers, which are similar to a Firefox add-on.  I wonder how internet advertisers feel about these browser tools?  No uproar about it has gained any traction yet.  Maybe they use the extensions themselves.

The Dojo Toolkit 1.4 is now available to developers.  It took nine months to finish and now the open source modular JavaScript library comes with nearly 1000 bug fixes.  The toolkit includes a new dojo.cache API.  dojo.cache caches data from files and APIs such as dojo.Animation and dojo.contentHandlers.  The TaskSpeed function is speedier in 1.4.  The Dojo developers say they have more nifty features coming in version 1.5.

The flagship company for PHP, Zend, just announced the release of Zend Studio 7.1.  The PHP specific IDE supports PHP 5.3, synchronization with remote servers, and TDD (task-driven development).  PHAR (PHP Archives) support is another major addition to 7.1.  PHP Studio 7.1 is ready for download starting at 399 euro.

The announcement for NetBeans 6.8 is the top link on DZone from yesterday.  If you haven't given NetBeans a try, go download it and have a look.  It's free and open source, so why wouldn't you?  Eclipse and IDEA will still be there when you get back.
