Speaking of Android, the OS now officially has over 20,000 apps to choose from. The proportion of free to paid apps stayed about the same compared to the 10,000 app milestone. About two-thirds are free. Almost 14% of the apps have been downloaded over 10,000 times. Over half of the apps have been downloaded under 500 times. Those stats are similar to Apple's numbers, and it shows that app revenue is mainly concentrated in the hands of a few popular app developers.
Finally! Some news about MySQL that doesn't involve Oracle and the EU being at each others' throats. The second milestone of MySQL 5.5 was just released and it includes semi-synchronous replication based on patches to InnoDB. This function ensures that at least one slave must confirm the data has arrived and been buffered when changes are committed in the master database. The milestone also adds standard exception handling and enhanced partitioning. The milestone can be downloaded here.

The name comes from the file storage containers called "blobs". Access controls and organizational structures can be built on top of the blobs. Right now, the blobs can only be used by applications that have enabled billing.
