EU Expected to Approve Microsoft-Yahoo Team-up
The EU is set to approve the search outsourcing deal between Yahoo and Microsoft, reports Reuters.  The announcement could come any time between now and Friday, February 19th, which is the deadline for a decision.  Once the deal is approved, Yahoo will be powered by Bing, gaining revenue from search ads that are sold on its site.  With Google's dominance in the search market, Microsoft and Yahoo together probably didn't look monopolistic at all.

IBM Bows to the Power of Mac and the iPhone
In its efforts to prosper in the enterprise social networking market, IBM realizes that it has to consider the almighty iPhone and popular Mac OS X.  That's why they recently announced that they would be delivering their enterprise social platform, Lotus Connections and Lotus Quickr, onto the iPhone and Mac OS X.  The recent development proves the power of the consumer space, now that a big player like IBM - who is normally focused on business IT - is entering that domain.

HTC Desire is Nexus One Without All the Angry Customers
At the MWC, HTC unveiled an awfully familiar looking smartphone.  The HTC Desire is actually the same phone as Google's Nexus One (Remember, HTC made the Nexus One) but with a few tweaks and Flash support.  Although Flash 10.1 hasn't been released in GA yet, Desire will be Flash 10.1-ready when it ships in Europe and Asia this spring.  HTC also released the HD Mini, a Windows phone, and the HTC "Sense" to go along with "Desire".

PDFBox and FontBox Libraries Released
Two projects from Apache released their 1.0 versions in the last 24 hours.  Apache PDFBox and and its component, FondBox, are used in PDF manipulation.  PDFBox is a Java library that includes a number of utilities for creating, encrypting, decrypting, converting, and extracting the text of PDF files.    FontBox lets you extract low level font data from font files.  The new versions include support for Apache CFF/Type2 fonts, and the switch has been made from Ant to Maven.  Sorry Ant fans!

Open source graph database Neo4j released 1.0

After 10 years of development and 7 years of 24/7 production (really?) the Neo4j graph database finally reached version 1.0.  Get acquainted with this awesome NoSQL database, but you should know that it's not open source for commercial usage.
