In the 1800's, different railroad companies around the world used different gauges for the rails, making trans-national travel very difficult.  Because of companies like Apple, the same thing is happening in the mobile development space, according to Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch.  Lynch responded to Apple-propagated misconceptions about Flash and HTML5 at the Web 2.0 Expo.  "It’s not about HTML 5 vs Flash.  They’re mutually beneficial," he said.  "We’re going to make the best tools in the world for HTML 5."

IE9 Delivers Second Preview as Promised
Microsoft released another preview of IE9 - this time with a new ACID 3 score of 68 out of 100.  Microsoft says that they've gotten a 117 millisecond speed improvement, according to the SunSpider benchmark.  The company has now submitted a total of 183 standards compliance tests to the W3C.  In this release developers can now experiment with sending different user agent strings to sites with every request.  One Microsoft evangelist said that he wanted IE9 to include the HTML5 Canvas tag, but it won't.

Chrome 5 Beta the Fastest Once Again
According to the SunSpider benchmark, the newly released Chrome 5 beta is the fastest browser once again with a 35% performance boost.  The beta comes with new features like preference sync and support for HTML5's geolocation APIs, App Cache, Web sockets, and file drag-and-drop capabilities.  This version also comes with the Flash client already integrated, including automatic updating.

Psychic Healing App Kicked Out of iPhone App Store
Finally, we end with a lighter side of the news.  A so-called wart healing application (priced at $12.99!) was barred from the iPhone App Store this week, probably for being ridiculous.  The application asked users to take a picture of their wart and send it to a "professional mental healer"  who thinks about the wart and, if all goes well, psychically heals it after 111 days.  Mystical help apps are actually quite common in the App Store.
