The Firefox 3.7 Alpha 5 developer preview was released this week with the 1.9.3 alpha of Mozilla's Gecko rendering engine.  This release includes some tantalizing Firefox 4.0 preview features such as the UI updates (which let you put tabs on top like in Chrome), Aero Glass support, and an updated add-on manager.  The WebM format is supported along with experimental support for 64-bit Mac OS X and Linux builds.  There is also hardware acceleration on Windows and Mac for viewing HTML5 video in full screen mode.

GigaSpaces XAP Gets Memcached
As high-powered Memcached distros like Gear6 and NorthScale become more successful, other companies are getting in on the Memcached action as well.  Today GigaSpaces will announce the next release of their eXtreme Application Platform (which is analogous to a JEE server with an embedded database), which now includes support for Memcached.  XAP 7.1.1 will be able to deploy with a Memcached schema and provide initial load semantics and write-behind for Memcached.  This feature will also add easier accessibility to the XAP for languages like Python, Ruby, and PHP.

Freeze, Debian!
Adam Barrat of the Debian Release Team announced a freeze on new features in Debian starting in August.  Debian 6.0 should be released about four months after the freeze.  Developers plan to complete the ongoing work caused by updating the Glibc to the Embedded Glibc, and the updates for GNOME 2.30 and KDE 4.4.3.

More Tools From eXo
Web Content Management (WCM) 2.0 was released for the eXo enterprise portal platform this week.  It comes bundled with GateIn 3.0 and Tomcat 6.0 to run out-of-box and it's available as a free download under the AGPL.  WCM fulfills some of the same functions for Java enterprises as SharePoint provides for .NET.  It's extensible, scalable, and able to be customized to fit certain projects.  Users can change the content repository structure and use their own metadata, for example; choose from different content templates, or create new ones; and create specific views based on roles.

Groovy 1.7.3 released
A few new features arrive for Groovy developers.  Groovy-master Andres Almiray posted this link.
