Multiple sources at Google are saying that Android's "Gingerbread" (version 3.0) will attempt to refine the user experience to make it as likable as the iPhone UI.  This is according to a report by TechCrunch that quotes sources at Google saying there will be a "laser" focus on the UI for the next release.  The new features should also make custom UI layers like HTC's Sense and Motorola's Blur unnecessary.  

YouTube Can Now Edit Video
This week, YouTube unleashed the perfect tool for its media site - a video editor.  The cloud-based audio and video editor is certainly not state-of-the-art, but it's a simple, easy to use tool that should make it easy for users to do some quick, basic editing and get more videos up faster.  YouTube also offers music from its AudioSwap library to add in a soundtrack.  People looking to upload videos won't need their own video editing software anymore, which should mean more videos, and hopefully better quality videos.  

RabbitMQ 1.8 Hops Forth
The 1.8 release of Spring's RabbitMQ adds several APIs to extend the cloud messaging system's pluggable architecture.  The system gains pluggable exchange types, and pluggable backing queries in this release.  There are also optimizations for cross-node routing within a cluster, and stronger enforcement of channel.flow.   

Violin Memory Buys Gear6 Memcached
Four year old startup Gear6 has been acquired by Violin Memory this week.  Gear6 is a Network File System caching company that provided a Memcached server that pushed the open source caching software to its limits.  Violin's CEO said, that Gear6's "proven high speed NFS caching combined with the Violin 3000 10 Terabyte Memory Array will allow us to front-end NFS installations solving the performance issues of today’s NAS devices."
