Daily Dose - GlassFish 3.0.1 Supports JRockit, OEL, and More

Although this "100 day" release of GlassFish 3.0.1 is relatively minor, there are several features that make this version noteworthy.  First, there's support for Oracle's JRockit JVM thanks to the merger.  Even more platforms are supported, such as Oracle Enterprise Linux, and various versions of RHEL, SLES, Windows, and HP-UX.  In addition, there are also more than 100 bugfixes.

Node.js Middleware Layer
A new project on GitHub entitled "Connect" is a high-performance middleware layer for Node.js.  The project was built by the developers of ExtJS and it uses concepts similar to Ruby's Rack.  The middleware layer features several bundled implementations such as log, static, and json-rpc.  Connect is distributed under the MIT license.

Eucalyptus EE 2.0 Arrives Under Former MySQLer Marten Mikos
Earlier this year Eucalyptus hired former MySQL leader, Marten Mikos as its CEO.  He says that Eucalyptus is quickly becoming the open source standard for private cloud computing.  This week they've released Eucalyptus Enterprise Edition 2.0 which finally has support for Windows virtual machines (Windows Server 2003, 2008, and Windows 7).  There are also new accounting and user group management features.

OpenSUSE 11.3 on its Way
The first release candidate for openSUSE 11.3 has been delivered with a second release candidate scheduled for July 1st.  This release will be based on the 2.6.34 Linux kernel, have support for the Btrfs file system through the installer, feature the Nouveau driver for improved Nvidia support, and improve netbook support.  The final release is due on July 15th.
