The Motorola Droid X phone was released this week, but a lot of reports said that hacking the phone would break the hardware as a secuity measure in the eFuse tampering-countermeasure system.  In fact, Engadget found that the phone just shuts down until you re-install the proper software, which makes it difficult but not impossible to jailbreak.

Chile the First Country to Adopt Net Neutrality
This week Chile voted almost unanimously to implement a law guaranteeing net neutrality.  The law states that "'No [ISP] can block, interfere with, discriminate, hinder, nor restrict the right of any Internet user of using, send, receive or offer any content, application, or legitimate service through the Internet, as well as any activity or legitimate use conducted through the Internet."  It's a big step for a country that very restrictive internet laws up until last year.  Hopefully other countries will follow suit.

Carakan Injected Into the Mobile World
A mobile version of the Carakan JS engine and Vega graphics library have been put into Nokia's Symbian-based S60 platform.  Carakan debuted through the Opera Mobile 10.1 beta.  JIT compilation is not in this release, but it is on the way.  Support is also included for some CSS3 modules.

Atlassian Gets $60 Million in First Round of Venture Funding
Eight years after it was founded, Atlassian is now rolling in cash after Accel Partners offered them $60 million in VC.  Atlassian started with 10,000 in credit card debt and now rakes in about $59 million in yearly revenue.  The open source company says it will use the new money for "mergers and acquisitions, marketing and deeper, more involved participation in local communities where developers congregate."
