Daily Dose - Mylyn Becomes Top Level Project

After a major reorganization at the beginning of this year, the Eclipse Mylyn ALM (application lifecycle management) project has earned 'top level' status.  Mike Milinkovich, Executive Director of the Eclipse Foundation, says that Mylyn has become the de facto ALM integration framework at Eclipse.  With today's announcement, Mylyn now becomes a core component of the Eclipse strategy.

Sun Boosts Oracle Earnings, Again
Oracle reported a 48% increase in GAAP revenues this week, which brought it to $7.5 billion for the first quarter of their 2011 fiscal year.  The increased revenues are likely coming from the introduction of Sun technologies, Oracle says.  The company also announced that ex-HP CEO Mark Hurd, who is now the co-president at Oracle, will be in heading the engineering systems strategic branch.

More Reports Indicate VMware as Potential SUSE Buyer
After the New York Post's initial report this week, the Wall Street Journal has confirmed that Novell is on the verge of selling the company in two sections.  The report says that VMware is in advanced talks to buy Novell's SUSE Linux division while the equity-backed software company Attachmate Corp could buy the rest.

New Apache Executive Officers
The Apache Software Foundation held elections for executive officers early this week.  Doug Cutting was elected as ASF chairman while Jim Jagielski, the former chairman, became President.  Greg Stein became the Vice Chairman and Google's Noirin Shirley will be the new Executive Vice President.
