As Ideation Nation winds down, we wanted to share with you one of our favorite, fun ideas submitted by our creative participants. Christen’s idea is to employ geocaching – a GPS-powered scavenger hunt – as a way to get people more interested and involved in their communities. The possibilities are endless, Christen explains, as geocaching offers fun and interactive opportunities for various governmental departments to connect with their constituents.
Congratulations, Christen, on being selected for this week’s Idea of the Week!
“I would love to see an open source app for city government that leverages the fun of geocaching and/or puzzle caching to engage citizens in their community. For example, parks and recreation could use it to encourage community members to explore local parks, tourism agencies could apply it to increase awareness of unique landmarks, waste management could modify it to highlight hazardous waste recycling locations, libraries could employ it to attract new patrons, and downtown associations could customize it to increase traffic to local business. I believe this kind of app could be utilized in many different ways to increase citizen awareness and interaction.” – Christen
