Every software developer I know loves to stay sharp, but it can be difficult to find time to keep up with everything. Listening to podcasts when commuting, or when taking long trips over the holidays, can be a great way to do this with minimal effort. Here are five podcasts that I would recommend to developers.

1. Software Engineering Radio - The Podcast for Professional Software Developers

This podcast has been around for a very long time (there's 245 episodes for you to catch up on!). It is probably the most wide-ranging technical podcast out there. While sometimes you might not know much about the topic being discussed, it's a fantastic educational resource

2. The Talk Show with John Gruber

For any developers out there who are crazy about anything to do with Apple, you'll enjoy this podcast from John Gruber of Daring Fireball fame.

3. The iPhreaks Show

Probably the ultimate iOS developer podcast, produced by DevChat.tv. Recent episodes included interviews with the creator of fastlane, and episodes around iBeacons and GameplayKit

4. Developer Tea

Covering a wide variety of topics in ten minute chunks, Developer Tea is a really useful podcast to dip in and out of. You'll find episodes covering user experience, CSS and JavaScript, frameworks and general developer life.

5. Love Your Work w/ David Kadavy

Love Your Work is a series of interviews with entrepreneurs and creators who have achieved success by their own definition. Although in it's early days it shows a lot of promise, especially in the recent interview with Jason Fried.

6. Serial

OK, this is definitely not software related, but you need some time away from work too right? Serial brought a new level of interest and excellence in production values when it was released in 2014. Season 1 was based around the conviction of Adnan Syed for the murder of his girlfriend, of which he said he's innocent. With season 2 just started, you've got to give this a try.
