We have lots to share today! First, Expedia buys Orbitz for $1.6 billion. This is news more because it is so rare to see purchases of that magnitude. There are a few good articles on some advanced concepts, the central limit theorem, bayes theorem and paxos, a consensus algorithm. These concepts drive a lot of things that power some of your favorite sites, so give them a read. We also have a number of articles in the data category. Ayende @ Rahien continues the performance series, this time looking at faceting data. Netflix also gives us a primer on how they determine what is trending.

As always, enjoy today’s items, and please participate in the discussions on these sites.
