Google just added a new oversized confection to their front lawn where the giant Android robot resides.  The odd ritual is based on a precedent for new Android OS releases, in this case, Android 2.0 codename: Eclair.  This latest addition to the Googleplex lawn is a tell tale sign that a the release of Android 2.0 is very close.  The giant eclair joins two other big desserts on google's lawn: a cupcake and a donut.  These other two baked goods preceded the releases of Android 1.5 (codename: Cupcake) and 1.6 (codename: Donut)

The Giant Eclair

Google silliness aside, the new 2.0 version is expected to have some useful new features but there is no list currently available.  There are rumors that a multitouch feature is one possible new feature on Android 2.0.  The Motorola Sholes handset, also called the Motorola Droid, due for release by the end of this month is expected to be the first phone to feature Android 2.0
