While it can certainly feel sometimes like our terrible jobs are killing us, it turns out, they are.

That’s why so many health experts are now recommending a fairly drastic yet pragmatic solution: “Standing up, walking out the door, and never coming back to [your] place of work again.”

OK, that last part was from The Onion, but that doesn’t mean that walking away from a toxic workplace and never looking back isn’t just what the doctor ordered. (The first statement is true, after all.)

And if you’re a software developer, you especially have no reason to stick with a company that doesn’t have your back. Not only are your skills among the most in-demand there are, but desperate employers are also willing to pay you handsomely for them, as this blog post from LinkedIn explains.

Of the 15 jobs on their list that are currently offering more than $100,000 per year, almost all of them are right up the developer alley: Site Reliability Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, Cloud Architect, Solutions Architect, Data Scientist, Product Designer, Information Technology Lead, Product Manager, Solutions Consultant, Scrum Master, and Product Owner.

So if you find yourself in a dead-end, soul-sucking job, do yourself a favor and brush off that resume.
