Red Hat Summit 2019 is rocking Boston, MA from May 7-9th in the Boston Convention and Exhibition Center.

Everything you need to know about the current state of open-source, enterprise-ready software can be found at this event. From customers talking about their experiences leveraging open source in their solutions, to the creators of open-source technologies you're using, and all the way down to hands-on lab experiences on these technologies.

This hands-on appeal is what this series of articles is about. It's interesting to take a tour, so starting with this article, let's examine a series of instructor-led labs based on a specific theme.

This week, it's a roadmap to hybrid cloud infrastructure lab content. The following labs can be found in the session catalog online, by searching on title or filtering on instructor-led labs and hybrid cloud infrastructure.

Building a Red Hat Enterprise Linux Gold Image for Microsoft Azure

Building Red Hat Enterprise Linux gold images are essential for most organizations who deploy aggressively onto Microsoft Azure. In this hands-on lab, we'll implement the Azure best practices for security, performance, building an image, and getting it working on Azure. This was the #1, top-rated lab of Red Hat Summit 2018.

Speakers: Dan Kinkead, Goetz Rieger, James Read, Toni Willberg

Experience Managed Red Hat OpenShift on Microsoft Azure

Experience managed Red Hat OpenShift on Microsoft Azure for yourself in this instructor-led lab. Rapidly deploy your own private OpenShift cluster on Azure, build and deploy an application that is tightly integrated with additional Azure cloud resources, and explore the wider features of managed OpenShift on Azure, including Active Directory integration, cluster scaling, and Azure network and storage integration.

Speakers: Harold Wong, Anubhuti Manohar, Kenny Woodson, Mangirdas Judeikis, Sertaç Özercan

Hands-on With SQL Server 2019 and Red Hat OpenShift

In this hands-on lab, you'll learn the fundamentals of how to deploy, configure, and use SQL Server 2019 with Red Hat OpenShift. You'll learn how to create databases, objects, and use new performance capabilities of the SQL Server database engine. The lab also includes hands-on exercises to see how SQL Server is highly available on Red Hat OpenShift, including the new operator-based deployment and always-on-availability group replica configuration.

Speakers: Vin Yu, Bob Ward, Nicholas Gerasimatos

OpenShift and Container Storage for Administrators

OpenShift couples the speed and portability of Docker containers with the cluster management capabilities of Kubernetes. And for developers, the real power of OpenShift is in how it uses these technologies to provide full application life-cycle support — from source code to production application deployments. But what if the application that you are trying to manage is OpenShift itself? In this lab, you'll learn about how to manage all of the run-time aspects of a Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform cluster—from quotas and limits to user management to basic node host management tasks as well. This OpenShift for operators lab is updated every year with the latest OpenShift features for administrators. It's highly recommended for anyone considering an OpenShift deployment for their private cloud.

Speakers: Matt Woodson, Thomas Wiest, Annette Clewett, Erik Jacobs, Naveen Malik, Ryan Cook

OpenStack Deployment in Layer 3 Leaf/Spine Topology

This instructor-led session will walk you through planning Red Hat OpenStack Platform in a layer 3 leaf/spine topology, a lab deployment of OpenStack in layer 3 leaf/spine using Red Hat OpenStack director, followed by labs on tenant networking and provider networking in a layer 3 leaf/spine topology. We'll cover:

  • A review of leaf/spine (Clos fabric) architecture.
  • OpenStack architecture planning for layer 3 leaf/spine.
  • Lab 1: Deployment of OpenStack.
  • Lab 2: Tenant networking in layer 3 leaf/spine topology.
  • Lab 3: Provider networking in layer 3 leaf/spine topology.

Speakers: Joe Antkowiak, Ken Holden, Chris Janiszewski

Red Hat Ceph Storage: Building an Object Storage Active/Active Multisite Solution

In this lab, you'll learn from Red Hat experts how easy it is to set up a Red Hat Ceph Storage cluster using Red Hat Ansible Tower, and to deploy a Red Hat Ceph object storage cluster in a multisite active/active configuration that is able to span several geographies and offer a solid disaster recovery solution for your object storage. The agenda includes:

  • An opening presentation to introduce Red Hat Ceph Storage and its architecture.
  • A hands-on lab using Ansible to install and configure a containerized multinode Ceph cluster, install Red Hat Ceph Storage dashboard to monitor Ceph cluster, configure Red Hat Ceph object storage Rados gateway in an active/active multisite cluster, and configure an S3 client to test and troubleshoot a Rados gateway multisite deployment.
  • A closing presentation reviewing the final conclusions of the lab.
  • Q&A time.

You'll leave this session with a better understanding of Red Hat Ceph Storage architecture and concepts; with a taste of installing, setting up, and provisioning a containerized Red Hat Ceph deployment; with a peek into the Red Hat Ceph Storage metrics solution, which is included in the product; and enhanced skills building a Red Hat Ceph Storage Rados gateway multisite cluster.

Speakers: Daniel Dominguez, Jorge Tudela Gonzalez de Riancho, Daniel Parkes, Maurizio Garcia
