Something has happened – or maybe didn’t happened – that has caused Microsoft to delay the release of SQL Server 2008 to the calendar three quarter. It offered no excuse.

It was generally expected in the second quarter.

Microsoft is still going to “launch” the database on February 27 along with Windows Server 2008 and Visual Studio 2008. It's promising a feature-complete CTP for the event and a release candidate in Q2.

Microsoft says the code it’s previewed so far has been downloaded 100,000 times.
