Tell us a little bit about your professional career. How long have you been in the business?
I've been in the industry for 20 years, beginning in sales/support for Nielson, and then moving to the startup world after about six years in the corporate world. I worked with two startups -- which was a big change considering my then-background with corporate, old-fashioned methodologies. I'm now the Senior Director of Marketing at SAP.
What types of marketing have you worked with?
I've done everything from having big, multi-million dollar budgets to zero monetary dollars. Also, I am well-versed in personal and social branding in addition to specializing in content marketing.
Who was your first professional inspiration?
The first CMO I worked for quickly taught me one very valuable lesson: Never hand out a dollar without a budget and business plan. In fact, one of my first projects was shut down after my research revealed that we were spending too much money for the return we would have received for the investment. It was a really tough thing for me to do because I knew that my research could lead to a lot of people losing their jobs. Thankfully, though, it worked out because everyone was reassigned to a different project…Though the Project Manager wasn't too pleased with me.
Let's take off the work gloves. Do you have any hobbies?
My four kids are certainly my biggest hobby. I'm a family man through and through. I also like running, but it's sometimes hard to manage your miles…if you know what I mean.
Do you like any sports?
College football, college basketball…and, when they're winning, I like to watch the Eagles. This past year was tough, being an Eagles fan.
What's been your proudest moment?
I'm a very passionate family man -- I wear my emotions on my sleeve and love my kids. But professionally, this past year, I had a very successful blog program that I implemented and it has exceeded all expectations!
