Many predictions of the futuristic sci-fi movies of the 90’s are coming true. With technologies such as the Internet of Things technologies and beacons, the future is here. Whether it is automating the coffee percolator to get freshly brewed decoction in the right consistency poured at the exact time as you enter the kitchen, or the lights and air conditioning being controlled by once presence, every form of automation imaginable is being executed.
Smart Homes With Beacons and IoT
Technology has improved our quality of life manifold, however at a cost: environmental cost. With automated homes, using beacons and IoT technologies, we can create smart homes that are efficient and minimize waste. So, if nobody’s in the room, all appliances will be shut off, home temperature can be regulated based on sensors that track human temperature and it is okay if you forget to power off your car, it will happen automatically.
Technologies for Automation
Beacon hardware is installed along with the wiring for electricity in a new home. On the basis of rules set by you, it will push notifications to your internet-enabled device via appropriate applications. The proximity to the beacon is important as beacons are technically not long range devices. You can get a reminder on the expiry date of the bread in the shelf or milk in your refrigerator based on pre-set reminders.
IoT and Energy Efficiency
Internet of Things can be used extensively within the house for energy efficient use of appliances; however, complete smart cities are being planned where even the street lights and parking meters will be operated with sensors that will not need manual operations. You can adjust the beacon to automatically turn off appliances or set reminders to switch them off. Major electronic companies such as Phillips, Sony, LG, GE, etc. are already working on manufacturing home appliances, including wirings and cables, with IoT hardware integrated in them.
Connecting IoT Devices
Wearable devices, voice recognition applications, cloud technology are all working in tandem to make IoT home appliances easily accessible and efficient. Mobility solutions and the internet form the foundation for smart home appliance development. Most mobile applications for managing and controlling these appliances are cross-platform and can be used uniformly across platforms. With face and voice recognition built into the application, for instance, TouchID enabled apps, these applications give greater control to the user and offer higher security with easy access.
IoT is a current reality that is quickly perpetuating the households, not only the luxurious homes, but also the regular households at a fairly affordable price.
